Part 2
Research film/video making techniques
Camera shots and angles:
Cut in – A shot that shows part of the subject in detail. A hand for example.
Cut away – a shot that cuts away from something/someone other than the subject of the film.
Point of view – This shows something from the subjects point of view.
Varied shot sizes:
Very Wide shot – The subject is only just visible. This shot establishes the subject’s surroundings.
Mid shot – The subject can be seen clearly (up to the waist).
Close up – A certain part of the subject most often the face takes up the whole screen.
Tracking or Static camera:
Follow – the camera follows the subject.
Pan – Camera moves left and right.
Tilt – pointing the camera up and down.
Framing and composition
When framing the photographer/film maker has to keep the rule of thirds in mind. To make a point of interest stand out it should be positioned one or two thirds up the frame or across it rather than right in the center. Leaving a strategic amount of room in the frame can also help.
Mise-en-scene
The contents and organization of the frame. For example; the position of the characters, lighting and setting.
